Abstract (English): review and analysis of the epidemiology and international and national statistics available and published on diarrhoea in children in Venezuela, more recent statistics on morbidity by intestinal infectious diseases and other determinants of collective health such as water not suitable for human use and consumption, inappropriate sanitation and hygiene are presented, directly associated with water diseases in particular diarrhoea. aspects of classical epidemiology on disease distribution, social and environmental determinants and the study of outbreaks, highlights of epidemiological monitoring and surveillance of diarrhoea and public health measures for prevention and control are presented. Abstract (Spanish): Revisión y análisis de la epidemiología y las estadísticas internacionales y nacionales disponibles y publicadas sobre las diarreas en niños en Venezuela, se presentan estadísticas más recientes sobre la morbimortalidad por las enfermedades infecciosas intestinales y otros determinantes de la salud colectiva como lo son el agua no apta para el uso y consumo humano, inapropiado saneamiento ambiental e higiene, directamente asociados con las enfermedades hídricas en particular las diarreas. se presentan aspectos sobre la epidemiologia clásica sobre la distribución de la enfermedad, los determinantes sociales y ambientales y el estudio de brotes, aspectos destacados de la vigilancia y monitoreo epidemiológica de las diarreas y las medidas de salud pública para la prevención y control.
