Abstract (English): BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease with a significant morbidity due to its progressive evolution and the possibility of clinical and esthetic sequelae. OBJECTIVE: To describe the demographic characteristics and dermatological manifestations of hidradenitis suppurativa, its association with systemic entities, the treatment prescribed and the days of incapacity generated in patients assessed in a reference tertiary care center in Colombia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive cross-sectional study including patients with hidradenitis suppurativa treated in outpatient, emergency or hospital care settings from January 2004 to December 2019. The patients were characterized by clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic subgroups. RESULTS: There were included 50 patients. The hidradenitis suppurativa female-tomale ratio was 2.1:1; 22 patients required care in all three clinical settings (outpatient, inpatient and/or emergency). The most frequent comorbidities were acne conglobata, pilonidal cyst and high blood pressure. Topical treatment was indicated to 20/50 patients, 25 were operated on, and all of them received some kind of systemic therapy during the different assessments. CONCLUSIONS: Most of the patients had a Hurley severity scale of II-III, which could be related to poor control of the disease. Therapeutic behaviors were similar to those performed in other populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): ANTECEDENTES: La hidradenitis supurativa es una enfermedad inflamatoria crónica sistémica, con gran morbilidad debido a su evolución progresiva y posibilidad de secuelas clínicas y estéticas. OBJETIVO: Describir las características demográficas, manifestaciones dermatológicas y asociación con otras enfermedades, así como el tratamiento prescrito y los días de incapacidad generados en los pacientes con hidradenitis supurativa, valorados en un centro de remisión y referencia de alta complejidad en Colombia. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio descriptivo, transversal, que incluyó a pacientes con hidradenitis supurativa atendidos en consulta externa, urgencias u hospitalización entre enero de 2004 y diciembre de 2019. Se realizó una caracterización por subgrupos clínicos, estudios paraclínicos y terapéuticos. RESULTADOS: Se incluyeron 50 pacientes. La razón de mujeres respecto a hombres con hidradenitis supurativa fue de 2.1 a 1; 22 pacientes requirieron atención en los tres escenarios clínicos (ambulatorio, hospitalario y urgencias). Las comorbilidades asociadas con más frecuencia fueron acné conglobata, quiste pilonidal e hipertensión arterial. El tratamiento tópico se indicó a 20/50 pacientes, 25 fueron intervenidos quirúrgicamente y todos recibieron algún tipo de terapia sistémica durante las diferentes valoraciones. CONCLUSIONES: La mayoría de los pacientes tenía severidad II-III según la escala de Hurley, lo que podría estar relacionado con mal control de la enfermedad.
