| Abstract (English): |
Archwires in orthodontics are important elements capable of storing energy and then gradually releasing it, generating stimuli in the periodontium and promoting dental movement. The use of wire arch forms throughout the treatment is important to obtain, in accordance with the orthodontic objectives, good stability, function and aesthetics of the dental arches. The use of an inadequate or altered arch form can modify the aesthetic and functional results in orthodontic treatment. In this investigation, a sample of 180 NiTi archwires was made, 90 upper archwires and 90 lower archwires. 10 upper archwires and 10 lower archwires of each of the following calibers 0.016 x 0.022, 0.017 x 0.025 and 0.019 x 0.025 of three brands, which were American Orthodontics, OrthoPremium (manufactured by Hangzou Yamei) and the Denxy brand. The wires were placed on a millimeter sheet with the apex of the arch at the intersection of a vertical line and a horizontal line. When the archwire was centered, the archwire was divided into 6 parts, each one 10mm from the other on the vertical line, and it was measured crosswise at these marks. The data was captured in an electronic record sheet of the Microsoft Excel program. The descriptive statistics and the ANOVA tests were carried out in the SPSS 19 program. In the results, we obtained that the Denxy archwires presented fewer changes in their archwires. Therefore, mixing brands of wires during treatment is not recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
