Abstract (English): Background: Technological advances in diagnostic imaging tests have increased the incidental detection of small pulmonary nodules, however, the lack of scientific studies limits the knowledge of the prevalence and real characteristics. Objective: To know the evolution of pulmonary nodules from 6 to 30 mm in a population endemic for tuberculosis. Method: An analytical study of ambidirectional cohort type was carried out with a sam ple of 10 patients, with incidental nodules in computed tomography from 6 to 30 mm, > 35 years old. Results: Of the 378 tomographic studies reviewed, 34 patients (9.7%) presented pulmonary nodules from 6 to 30 mm, of which 79.3% were single nodules and 20.6% multiple, 61.7% were presented in men and 38.2% women. The presence of nodules is greater in the right lung (59.9%); 86.6% of the nodules were solid with smooth edges (93.3%), without calcifications (64.4%), while 8.8% were subsolid and 4.4% mixed. In the tomographic control of the nodules from 6 to 30 mm, 35.3% reduced their size, 29.4% remained constant, 23.5% apparently increased their size, and 11.8% disappeared. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Introducción: Los avances tecnológicos en pruebas diagnósticas de imagen han incrementado la detección incidental de nódulos pulmonares, sin embargo la falta de estudios científicos limita el conocimiento de la prevalencia y características reales. Objetivo: conocer la evolución de nódulos pulmonares de 6 a 30 mm en una población endémica de tuberculosis. Método: Se realizó un estudio analítico de tipo cohorte ambidireccional con una muestra de 10 pacientes con nódulos incidentales de 6 a 30 mm, mayores de 35 años. Resultados: De los 378 estudios tomográficos revisados, 34 pacientes (9.7%) presentaron nódulos pulmonares de 6 a 30 mm, de ellos el 79.3% fueron nódulos únicos y el 20.6% múltiples, el 61.7 % se presentaron en hombres y 38.2 % mujeres. La presencia de nódulos es mayor en el pulmón derecho (59.9%). El 86.6% de los nódulos fueron sólidos con bordes lisos (93.3%), sin calcificaciones (64.4%), mientras que el 8.8% fueron subsólidos y 4.4% de tipo mixto. En el control tomográfico de los nódulos = 8 mm y = 30 mm, el 35.3% redujeron su tamaño, el 29.4% permanecieron constantes, el 23.5% incrementaron su tamaño y el 11.0% desaparecieron.
