| Abstract (English): | Mathematical models for the prediction of communicable diseases preventable by vaccination helps to evaluate the impact of implemented or future vaccination programmes. So far, there has been little culture of modelling in this area, the results of which will serve to make adjustments in the planning and monitoring of these programs. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided a boost to the development of mathematical vaccination models, due to the collaboration between modelers and Public Health professionals contributing to the adjustment of the COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy in Spain. It is necessary to consolidate and continue promoting this research capacity, bring mathematical models closer to professionals and quickly incorporate the use of these tools into decision-making. | Abstract (Spanish): | La utilización de modelos matemáticos de predicción en las enfermedades transmisibles prevenibles por vacunación ayuda a evaluar el impacto de un programa de vacunación ya implantado o futuro. Hasta el momento ha habido escasa cultura de modelización en este ámbito, cuyos resultados sirvieran para realizar ajustes en la planificación y el seguimiento de estos programas. La pandemia de COVID-19 ha supuesto un impulso al desarrollo de modelos matemáticos de vacunación. Gracias a la colaboración entre modeladores y Salud Pública se ha contribuido al ajuste de la Estrategia de Vacunación COVID-19 en España. Es necesario consolidar y seguir impulsando esta capacidad investigadora, acercar los modelos matemáticos a los profesionales e incorporar de forma ágil el uso de estas herramientas a la toma de decisiones.
