Abstract (English): Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the available treatments for Halitosis. Methods: A search was carried out in the PubMed database, in collaboration with the RAYYAN application that allowed the filtering of articles from the year 1986 to the year 2020 in English. A total of 63 articles were obtained. After classifying the articles by literary review studies or opinion articles, a total of 27 articles were included, which were duly analyzed. Results: Various reasons were found that cause bad breath in rare cases, it is a serious systemic problem that requires diagnosis and treatment, halitosis can be measured by a halimeter, as well as various treatments for it, they can be from a simple brushing or careful oral hygiene or complex treatments, there are antibacterial drugs that help us treat perioral skin infections. Conclusion: The treatment will depend on the diagnosis of each patient, it can be from the simplest to the most complex. Clinical importance: The effective identification of the causes, symptoms and the different available treatments given for prevention in patients with bad breath or halitosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los tratamientos disponibles para la halitosis. Métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda en la base de datos de PubMed, en colaboración con la aplicación RAYYAN que permitió la filtración de artículos desde el año 1986 al 2020 en inglés. Se obtuvo un total de 63 artículos. Luego de clasificar los artículos por estudios de revisión literario o artículos de opinión, se incluyeron un total de 27 artículos, los cuales fueron debidamente analizados. Resultados: Se encontraron diversas razones que provocan el mal aliento; en raros casos se trata de un problema sistémico grave que requiere diagnóstico y tratamiento, la halitosis puede ser medida por un Halimeter®, así como también se encontraron diversos tratamientos para este, pueden ser desde un simple cepillado o una cuidadosa higiene bucal o tratamientos complejos; existen medicamentos antibacterianos que nos ayudan al tratamiento de infecciones cutáneas periorales. Conclusión: El tratamiento dependerá del diagnóstico de cada paciente, puede ser desde lo más sencillo hasta lo más complejo. Importancia clínica: La identificación efectiva de las causas, síntomas y los diferentes tratamientos disponibles que se dan para la prevención en pacientes con mal aliento o halitosis.
