| Abstract (English): | For many years, a connection between systemic lupus erythematosus and viral infection has been reported. Viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, parvovirus B-19 and now severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), or COVID-19, are linked to a high risk of autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus. Since March 2020 COVID-19 pandemic challenged public health system and the most effective way to reduce COVID-19 infection was immunization. In less than 12 months COVID-19 immunization began. The messenger RNA (Pfizer and Moderna) vaccines were frequently used. S (spike) protein was the primary target to generate neutralizing antibodies in more than 95% of cases. However, immunological phenomena and autoimmune diseases were reported before 30 days following COVID-19 vaccine administration. In this case-based review, the author searched for subjects with a diagnosis of lupus erythematosus following COVID-19 infection or COVID-19 vaccination. Clinical manifestations, personal and family history of autoimmune diseases, number of autoantibodies, and treatment were investigated. Lupus erythematosus activity was measured using Mex-SLEDAI. | Abstract (Spanish): | Durante muchos años se ha reportado una conexión entre el lupus eritematoso sistémico y la infección viral. Los virus Epstein-Barr, citomegalovirus, parvovirus B-19 y ahora el síndrome respiratorio agudo severo asociado con coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), o COVID-19, se relacionan con alto riesgo de enfermedad autoinmunitaria, incluido el lupus eritematoso sistémico. En marzo de 2020 la pandemia por COVID-19 desafió al sistema de salud pública y, con el fin de contenerla, se inició la vacunación. En menos de 12 meses de la pandemia se inició la inmunización contra COVID-19 con las vacunas de ARN mensajero (Pfizer y Moderna). La proteína S (spike) de COVID-19 se eligió como el blanco primario para generar anticuerpos neutralizantes en más del 95% de los casos. Sin embargo, se reportaron fenómenos inmunológicos y enfermedades autoinmunitarias en los primeros 30 días después de la vacunación. En esta revisión, basada en casos, se buscaron casos con diagnóstico de lupus eritematoso sistémico después de la infección o vacunación contra COVID-19. Se anotaron las manifestaciones clínicas, antecedentes personales y familiares de enfermedades autoinmunitarias, complicaciones, cantidad de autoanticuerpos y tratamiento. La actividad del lupus eritematoso sistémico se midió mediante Mex-SLEDAI. Una puntuación por evaluación de la historia clínica mayor de 7 se consideró lupus eritematoso sistémico activo.
