Abstract (English): Dengue is an endemic arbovirus in Brazil, with an increase in cases during the warmer and wetter months. This acute febrile illness can be severe, leading to death by hypovolemic shock. Early recognition and attention to warning signs are crucial, as is understanding treatment options. This study aims to evaluate promising alternative therapies for dengue management based on a systematic literature review. Articles published between 2014 and 2024 in Portuguese, English, and Spanish were selected from the PubMed database. Various types of studies were included, excluding incomplete articles or those conducted on animals. Results highlighted formulations of Traditional Chinese Medicine, such as Jinhua Qinggan and Lianhua Qingwen, and compounds like lutein and rosmarinic acid with antiviral effects against the dengue virus. The use of herbs with insecticidal properties was also mentioned. However, the informal use of traditional remedies may pose risks of adverse effects, such as hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. The findings underscore the importance of rigorous clinical evaluation of alternative therapies to ensure safety and efficacy, improving clinical outcomes and reducing mortality associated with the disease.
