| Abstract (English): | Introduction: the relationship between digestive ostomies and the risk of prosthetic joint infection following total hip arthroplasty (THA) is not well-established. This study aimed to assess prosthesis survival, clinical outcomes, and infectious complications in patients with a digestive ostomy undergoing THA. Material and methods: a single-center, retrospective observational study was conducted, including patients with digestive ostomies who underwent THA between 2005 and 2018, with at least one year of follow-up. Data collected included the site and type of ostomy, underlying disease, type of THA, clinical outcomes measured by the Merle d'Aubigné-Postel (MAP) Score, postoperative infections, and the need for revision surgery. Results: seven patients with a mean age of 63 years (range 45-80) and a mean follow-up of 10.1 years were included. The most common cause of the ostomy was colon cancer. The average MAP Score one year postoperatively was 17.1. There were no postoperative complications or infections. Conclusions: the study concludes that THA in patients with digestive ostomies results in favorable clinical outcomes and does not increase the risk of periprosthetic joint infections. | Abstract (Spanish): | Introducción: la relación entre las ostomías digestivas y el riesgo de infección de la articulación protésica después de una artroplastía total de cadera (ATC) no está bien establecida. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la supervivencia de la prótesis, los resultados clínicos y las complicaciones infecciosas en pacientes con una ostomía digestiva sometidos a ATC. Material y métodos: estudio observacional retrospectivo de un solo centro, que incluyó pacientes con ostomías digestivas que se sometieron a ATC entre 2005 y 2018, con al menos un año de seguimiento. Los datos recopilados incluyeron el sitio y tipo de ostomía, enfermedad subyacente, tipo de ATC, resultados clínicos medidos con la puntuación Merle d'Aubigné-Postel (MAP), infecciones postoperatorias y necesidad de cirugía de revisión. Resultados: se incluyeron siete pacientes con edad media de 63 años (rango 45-80) y un seguimiento promedio de 10.1 años. La causa más común de la ostomía fue cáncer de colon. La puntuación MAP promedio un año después de la cirugía fue 17.1. No hubo complicaciones ni infecciones postoperatorias. Conclusión: la ATC en pacientes con ostomías digestivas da resultados clínicos favorables y no aumenta el riesgo de infecciones periprotésicas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
