Abstract (English): Introduction: Ovarian cancer is one of the first deadly malignant neoplasms afflict women. Factors such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) or obesity have been associated with the risk of having ovarian cancer; however, research correlating metabolic problems with ovarian cancer risk is lacking. Objective: Evaluate the risk association between T2D and ovarian cancer. Methodology: Study of cases and controls ratio 1:1. The participants with histopathological diagnosis of ovarian cancer were the eligible cases, and the controls were chosen by a convenience sample of the initial base of patients who underwent a gynecological echo at a tertiary hospital. The exposure of interest was type 2 diabetes mellitus. ORs were calculated using logistic regression. Results: A total of 270 participants were evaluated (135 per arm). In the group of women with DM2, an OR of 6.1 (95% CI 2.47-15.32) was observed as a risk factor for ovarian cancer. In the multivariate analysis adjusted for confounding factors, obesity (OR 2.6; 95% CI 1.15-6.16) and DM2 (OR 4.9; 95% CI 1.89 - 12.79) remained as independent risk factors for ovarian cancer. Conclusions: In our study, DM2 behaves as a risk factor for ovarian cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
