Abstract (English): OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of infectious agents and antimicrobial susceptibility in patients with vascular access-related infections. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a clinical, epidemiological, observational, retrospective, and cross-sectional study. We reviewed the clinical records and laboratory data of patients who underwent hemodialysis at the IMSS Hospital de Especialidades 2 in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, between September 1, 2021, and August 31, 2024. Positive blood cultures and their sensitivity profiles were analyzed using Pearson chi-square test. RESULTS: Of the 225 positive blood cultures, 52% corresponded to Gram-positive microorganisms, and 48% corresponded to Gram-negative microorganisms. The most frequent microorganisms were Staphylococcus epidermidis (31.1%), Enterobacter cloacae (15.6%), and Staphylococcus aureus (9.3%). Gentamicin (55.1%) and ciprofloxacin (49.3%) were the most effective antibiotics. The non-tunneled venous catheter was the most common access route (71.4%). In the inferential analysis, no association was found between the type of venous access and the type of infectious agent. CONCLUSION: There was no significant association between the type of vascular access and the infectious agent. The main microorganisms causing infections were S. epidermidis and E. cloacae, and antimicrobial sensitivity testing showed good results with gentamicin and ciprofloxacin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): OBJETIVO: Evaluar la prevalencia de los agentes infecciosos y la sensibilidad antimicrobiana en pacientes con infecciones asociadas con accesos vasculares. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio clínico, epidemiológico, observacional, retrospectivo y transversal. Se revisaron los expedientes clínicos y los datos de laboratorio de pacientes que recibieron hemodiálisis entre el 1 de septiembre del 2021 y el 31 agosto del 2024 en el Hospital de Especialidades 2 del IMSS, Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. Se analizaron los hemocultivos positivos y sus perfiles de sensibilidad mediante estadística descriptiva y c2 de Pearson. RESULTADOS: De los 225 hemocultivos positivos, el 52% correspondieron a microorganismos grampositivos y el 48% a gramnegativos. Los agentes más frecuentes fueron Staphylococcus epidermidis (31.1%), Enterobacter cloacae (15.6%) y Staphylococcus aureus (9.3%). Los antibióticos más efectivos fueron gentamicina (55.1%) y ciprofloxacina (49.3%). El catéter venoso no tunelizado fue el acceso más común (71.4%). En el análisis inferencial no se encontró asociación entre el tipo de acceso venoso y el tipo de agente infeccioso. CONCLUSIÓN: No se encontró una asociación significativa entre el tipo de acceso vascular y el agente infeccioso. Los principales microorganismos causantes de infecciones fueron Staphylococcus epidermidis y Enterobacter cloacae, y la sensibilidad antimicrobiana mostró buenos resultados con gentamicina y ciprofloxacina.
