Abstract (English): Objective: To determine the variability in the frequency of consultations for mental disorders in patients older than 18 years treated in a psychiatric consultation at the Hospital Universidad del Norte (HUN) between 2019 compared to 2020, and 2021, a period that corresponds to the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in Colombia. Materials and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study. For data collection, a secondary-type database was obtained, obtaining a sample of 3,465 medical records and 1,193 patients. This information was stored in a database and analyzed; an increase in the number of consultations after mandatory confinement was found as a result. It was also shown that neurotic disorders were the most frequent (69 %); the most common family history of psychiatric disorders was mood disorders (5 %); the most frequent disorder was mixed anxiety and depression (33 %), and most had no additional diagnoses in controls (77 %). Conclusions: This study was able to demonstrate an increase of in the consultation for psychiatric disorders during the pandemic of Covid-19 in HUN's patients was demonstrated. These results showed that anxiety and depression disorders were the most common in the population of the HUN psychiatric consultation, and it is necessary to improve and continue the activities of promotion and prevention of mental health education. Abstract (Spanish): Objetivo: Establecer la variabilidad en la frecuencia de consultas por trastornos mentales en pacientes mayores de 18 años atendidos en consulta psiquiátrica en el Hospital Universidad del Norte (HUN) en 2019 comparada con los años 2020 y 2021, periodo que corresponde al inicio de la pandemia por coronavirus en Colombia. Materiales y métodos: El diseño de investigación fue descriptivo transversal. Se utilizó una base de tipo secundaria, y se obtuvo una muestra de 3465 historias clínicas, que corresponden a 1193 pacientes; esta información fue almacenada en una base de datos y analizada. Se encontró un aumento en el número de consultas después del confinamiento obligatorio. También se evidenció que los trastornos neuróticos eran los más frecuentes (69 %). Los antecedentes familiares de trastornos psiquiátricos más comunes fueron los del humor (5 %), el trastorno más frecuente fue el mixto de ansiedad y depresión (33 %) y la mayoría no tuvo diagnósticos adicionales en controles (77 %). Conclusiones: En este estudio se logró identificar un aumento en el número de consultas por trastornos psiquiátricos durante la pandemia por Covid-19 en los pacientes del HUN. Estos resultados mostraron que los trastornos de ansiedad y depresión fueron los de mayor frecuencia en la población de la consulta psiquiátrica del HUN.
