| Abstract (English): | Introduction: menopausal hormone therapy is considered the gold standard for the treatment of bothersome vasomotor and vaginal symptoms of menopause. Objective: to review the available evidence on menopausal hormone therapy in the treatment of vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause. Materials and methods: a systematic exploration of the scientific literature was carried out in different electronic databases (Ebsco, EMBASE (Elsevier), Medline via Pub-Med, OVID, among others), using standardized search terms. Results: or moderate to severe hot flashes, with an impact on quality of life, systemic hormonal therapy with estrogens, either alone or combined with progestogens, has been shown to significantly reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes. Conclusions: in women who need relief from vasomotor symptoms related to menopause, products containing estrogen are the therapeutic standard. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Introducción: la terapia hormonal de la menopausia se considera el estándar de oro para el tratamiento de los molestos síntomas vasomotores y vaginales de la menopausia. Objetivo: revisar la evidencia disponible sobre la terapia hormonal de la menopausia en el tratamiento de los síntomas vasomotores asociados a la menopausia. Material y métodos: se realizó una exploración sistemática de la bibliografía científica en diferentes bases de datos electrónicas (Ebsco, EMBASE (Elsevier), Medline vía Pub-Med, OVID, entre otras), valiéndose de vocablos de búsqueda normalizados. Resultados: para los sofocos moderados a severos, con afectación de la calidad de vida, la terapia hormonal sistémica con estrógenos, ya sea sola o combinada con progestágenos, ha demostrado reducir significativamente la frecuencia y la gravedad de los sofocos. Conclusiones: en las mujeres que necesitan alivio de los síntomas vasomotores, relacionados con la menopausia, son los productos que contienen estrógenos el estándar terapéutico.
