| Abstract (English): | While leadership may be innate, it is a skill that can be learned and developed through practice and training, allowing everyone to improve their leadership skills and apply them in their daily, professional, and work lives. Developing a person as a leader involves more than occupying a position or managerial post; it is a journey of learning, resilience, growth, and profound personal transformation. This article presents a thoughtful view of leadership, emphasizing its value in organizations and describing the competencies and skills characteristic of a leader, including the ability to inspire stakeholders, creativity and innovation, adaptability, critical thinking, and a holistic and comprehensive vision. Likewise, it describes various situations that organizations face when advancement in the hierarchy does not meet the level of professional competence required for the position profile. These include the Peter principle, whose inadequate approach can generate negative effects on institutions and affect productivity, the work environment, and organizational culture. Leadership is developed and strengthened through challenging experiences, collaborative networks, and well-structured learning programs that focus not only on technical knowledge but also on to know how and how to be, all with a solid ethical and humanistic background. | Abstract (Spanish): | Si bien el liderazgo puede ser innato, es una habilidad que puede aprenderse y desarrollarse a través de la práctica y la formación, de tal manera que todas las personas pueden mejorar sus habilidades de liderazgo y aplicarlo en la vida cotidiana, profesional y laboral. El desarrollo de una persona como líder implica más que ocupar un puesto o un cargo directivo, es una travesía de aprendizaje, de resistencia, de crecimiento y de profunda transformación personal. En este artículo se expone una visión reflexiva del liderazgo, con insistencia en su valor en las organizaciones y descripción de las competencias y habilidades características del líder, entre ellas la capacidad de inspirar a los colaboradores, la creatividad e innovación, la adaptabilidad, el pensamiento crítico y una visión holística e integral. De la misma manera, se describen diversas situaciones que las organizaciones muestran cuando el ascenso en la jerarquía no responde al nivel de competencia profesional requerido para el perfil del puesto, entre ellas el principio de Peter, cuyo ejercicio inadecuado puede generar efectos negativos en las instituciones y afectar la productividad, el clima laboral y la cultura organizacional.
