| Abstract (English): | OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of a physical exercise routine practiced during the workday on serum glucose and lipid concentrations in workers at a public hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Longitudinal, prospective study conducted on workers at a tertiary hospital. The sample was convenience-based. Participants performed daily 30-minute exercise sessions, 5 days a week, for 12 weeks. Blood samples were taken at the beginning and end of the intervention to quantify fasting glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for related samples. RESULTS: Twenty-three women and six men with a mean age of 47.4 ± 6.7 years and a mean BMI of 31.13 ± 3.73 kg/m², with limits of 24.45 and 40.52 kg/m², were studied. A significant decrease was observed in fasting glucose concentrations, HbA1c, and triglycerides. LDL cholesterol decreased slightly without statistical significance, while HDL decreased slightly. CONCLUSIONS: Physical exercise during the workday significantly improved glycemic and triglyceride markers in hospital staff, even without dietary changes. The high participation of women highlights the need for gender-sensitive approaches. The results support the inclusion of structured physical exercise programs in occupational health policies as a preventive measure and to promote well-being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
