| Abstract (English): | OBJECTIVE: To determine the correlation between the assessment tools used in the comprehensive geriatric assessment of elderly individuals institutionalized in a geriatric institute in San Luis Potosí. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive, and exploratory study was conducted on older adults admitted to the Dr. Nicolás Aguilar Geriatric Institute between November 2023 and February 2024. The following were evaluated: the Charlson Comorbidity Index; the Barthel Index; the Short Physical Performance Battery; the Pfeiffer Questionnaire for Cognition; the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF) for nutritional status; the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) for psychological status (depression); the Older Adult Risk Screen (OARS) for social issues; the Frailty Index (FRAIL) for frailty; and the SARC-F for sarcopenia. RESULTS: A total of 45 adults with a median age of 81.64 years were analyzed. Most of the participants were women (n = 26) with six years of schooling or less (n = 40). The mean Charlson comorbidity index was 2.33 ± 1.44. Systemic arterial hypertension was the most prevalent disease, followed by depression. The OARS reported a median of 1, with 23 participants having completely impaired social resources. The FRAIL scale reported a median of 2, with only one participant categorized as not frail. The SARC-F reported a median score of 8, with 40 participants having a high probability of sarcopenia. CONCLUSIONS: The correlation between the scales that comprise the comprehensive geriatric assessment reinforces its multidimensional nature. This highlights the importance of assessing the geriatric population in a comprehensive and integrated manner, thereby enabling the design of action plans that promote healthy aging.
