Abstract (English): OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate, using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), the shaping ability and safety of different endodontic instruments in mesial canals of mandibular molars after use at 37℃ and 20℃. METHODS: Thirty-six extracted human mandibular molars were scanned by micro-CT and divided into three groups (n=12) according to the instrumentation system: Reciproc Blue (REC), ProDesign R (PDR), and X1 Blue File (X1), and further subdivided by temperature (n=6; 20℃ and 37℃). After instrumentation, specimens were rescanned and analyzed for canal volume increase, transportation, and centering ability. Instruments were subjected to torsional fatigue testing and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Following normal distribution (Shapiro-Wilk), data were analyzed using t-tests, Dunn or Tukey tests (α=0.05). RESULTS: No significant differences were observed in canal volume increase between groups and temperatures (p>0.05). In the middle third at 37℃, X1 showed greater distal transportation compared to REC (p<0.05), while REC transported more than PDR (p<0.05). In the cervical third, REC also exhibited greater distal transportation at 37℃ (p<0.05). Regarding centering ability, REC and X1 provided more centralized preparations in the middle third at 37℃ compared to PDR (p<0.05). X1 demonstrated higher torque resistance at 20℃ compared to REC and PDR (p<0.05), with no differences in angular deflection (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The instrumentation systems were influenced by temperature, with greater distal transportation and improved centering ability at 37℃ for REC and X1 in the middle third, and higher torque resistance at 20℃ for X1. Abstract (Portuguese): OBJETIVO: O objetivo foi avaliar, por meio de microtomografia computadorizada (micro-CT), a capacidade de modelagem e segurança de diferentes instrumentos em canais mesiais de molares inferiores após o uso a 37℃ e 20℃. MÉTODOS: Trinta e seis molares inferiores humanos extraídos foram escaneados por micro-CT e divididos em três grupos (n=12), conforme o sistema de instrumentação: Reciproc Blue (REC), ProDesign R (PDR) e X1 Blue File (X1), subdivididos por temperatura (n=6; 20℃ e 37℃). Após a instrumentação, os espécimes foram reescaneados e analisados quanto ao aumento de volume, transporte e centralização. Os instrumentos foram submetidos ao teste de fadiga torsional e à microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Diante da distribuição normal (Shapiro-Wilk), os dados foram analisados pelos testes t, Dunn ou Tukey (α=0,05). RESULTADOS: Não houve diferença no aumento de volume entre os grupos e temperaturas (p>0,05). No terço médio a 37℃, o X1 apresentou maior transporte para distal em relação ao REC (p<0,05), enquanto o REC transportou mais para distal que o PDR (p<0,05). No terço cervical, o REC também apresentou maior transporte para distal a 37℃ (p<0,05). Quanto à centralização, no terço médio a 37℃, REC e X1 proporcionaram preparos mais centralizados, em comparação ao PDR (p<0,05). O X1 mostrou maior torque a 20℃ em relação ao REC e PDR (p<0,05), sem diferenças na deflexão (p>0,05). CONCLUSÃO: Os sistemas de instrumentação foram influenciados pela temperatura, com maior transporte para distal e melhor centralização a 37℃ para REC e X1 no terço médio, e maior resistência ao torque a 20℃ para o X1.
