| Abstract (English): | Peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma (PCOF) is a benign reactive gingival lesion, commonly associated with chronic local irritants and with a predilection for young women. Although it typically appears as a small, asymptomatic, and slow-growing mass, atypical presentations with larger size and aggressive behavior have been reported. Definitive diagnosis relies on histopathological analysis, and the treatment of choice is complete surgical excision along with the removal of local etiological factors to minimize recurrence risk. This article reports the case of a 34-year-old female patient with a large (10 × 5 cm), rapidly growing mandibular PCOF that caused facial asymmetry, tongue displacement, functional impairment, and bone involvement. The lesion was successfully treated through surgery under general anesthesia, with favorable postoperative recovery. This case highlights an uncommon presentation of PCOF and underscores the importance of early diagnosis and wide surgical management in atypical clinical forms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | El fibroma cemento-osificante periférico (FOP) es una lesión benigna reactiva de la encía, comúnmente asociada a irritantes crónicos y con predilección por mujeres jóvenes. Aunque típicamente se presenta como un crecimiento pequeño, asintomático y de evolución lenta, pueden observarse formas atípicas de mayor tamaño y agresividad. Su diagnóstico requiere confirmación histopatológica, y el tratamiento de elección es la exéresis quirúrgica completa con remoción de factores etiológicos locales para reducir el riesgo de recurrencia. En este artículo se reporta el caso de una paciente de 34 años con un FOP mandibular de gran tamaño (10 × 5 cm) y rápida evolución, que generó asimetría facial, desplazamiento lingual, alteraciones funcionales y compromiso óseo. La lesión fue tratada exitosamente mediante cirugía bajo anestesia general, con evolución postoperatoria favorable. Este caso destaca una presentación infrecuente del FOP y subraya la importancia de un diagnóstico precoz y un abordaje quirúrgico amplio ante formas clínicas inusuales. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
