Abstract (English): Objective. To estimate the prevalence of current smoked tobacco use in the Mexican population at the intersection of socioeconomic status (SES), sex, age, and urbanicity. Materials and methods. We used data from the Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición conducted between 2018 and 2024 (n= 111 833) to estimate the prevalence of current smoked tobacco use across intersections of sociodemographic variables. Results. The highest prevalence of current smoked tobacco use (41.8%) was observed in male adults aged 25 to 34 years with low SES, from urban areas. For female adults, the peak prevalence (16.7%) occurred in the 25 to 34 age group, among those with high SES who lived in urban settings. Conclusions. This intersectional analysis makes the smoking epidemic with its social inequalities visible, identifies population groups with the highest use of smoked tobacco, and prioritizes the perspective of equity in tobacco control. Abstract (Spanish): Objetivo. Estimar la prevalencia de uso actual de tabaco fumado en población mexicana, considerando la intersección de nivel socioeconómico (NSE) con sexo, edad y urbanidad. Material y métodos. Se utilizaron datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición implementada entre 2018 y 2024 (n= 111 833) para estimar la prevalencia de uso actual de tabaco fumado en intersecciones según NSE, sexo, edad y urbanidad. Resultados. La prevalencia de uso actual de tabaco fumado más alta (41.8%) se observó en los hombres de 25 a 34 años (adultos jóvenes), con NSE bajo, de zonas urbanas. En las mujeres, la prevalencia más alta (16.7%) fue en el grupo de edad de 25 a 34 años, con NSE alto, de zonas urbanas. Conclusiones. Este análisis interseccional visibiliza la epidemia de tabaquismo con sus desigualdades sociales, identifica a los grupos poblacionales con mayor uso de tabaco fumado y prioriza la perspectiva de equidad en control de tabaco.
