Abstract (English): The article focuses on the term "weaning" in the hospital context, where it is used to refer to the disconnection of patients from interventions such as mechanical ventilation or medications. Although the original meaning in Spanish relates to the suspension of breastfeeding, in the medical field it has acquired a colloquial meaning that refers to the disconnection of a patient from the ventilator. Despite this usage not corresponding to the etymology of the term, it is considered acceptable in the medical context.
