| Abstract (English): | Obesity has established itself as a significant risk factor for the development of various oncological pathologies, and bariatric surgery has emerged as an effective strategy to achieve sustained weight loss and improve associated metabolic and neoplastic comorbidities. However, concerns arise regarding the potential increase in the risk of esophageal and gastric cancer following the procedure, due to the associated anatomical and pathophysiological changes. As bariatric surgery expands, it becomes essential to establish prevention and monitoring strategies that allow for a better understanding of the long-term oncological implications and improve the health of patients undergoing these interventions. | Abstract (Spanish): | La obesidad se ha consolidado como un factor de riesgo relevante para el desarrollo de diversas patologías oncológicas, y la cirugía bariátrica se ha posicionado como una estrategia eficaz para lograr una pérdida de peso sostenida, mejorar las comorbilidades metabólicas y neoplásicas asociadas. Sin embargo, la preocupación surge en relación con el posible incremento del riesgo de cáncer de esófago y estómago tras la realización, debido a los cambios anatómicos y fisiopatológicos asociados. Por ello, los objetivos del trabajo son analizar los mecanismos fisiopatológicos y moleculares, y los resultados reportados en la literatura sobre estos tumores. A medida que la cirugía bariátrica se expande, se vuelve esencial establecer estrategias de prevención y monitoreo que permitan comprender mejor las implicancias oncológicas a largo plazo y mejorar la salud de los pacientes sometidos a estas intervenciones.
