| Abstract (English): | Introduction: hip pain is a common symptom linked to trauma, joint wear and tear or genetic predisposition. In the presence of progressive pain and functional disability without the above causes, it is necessary to explore and rule out other less frequent causes of joint damage, such as synovial chondromatosis. Currently, surgical dislocation of the hip represents an effective and safe alternative to treat this condition. Case report: male patient with synovial chondromatosis of the hip, characterized by progressive functional limitation, without relevant history, and with evolution of chronic pain that limits basic life activities. Being a rare disease of unknown etiology, a bibliographic review was made to look for functional results and improvement of pain after surgical treatment. Results: gradual progression of the disease was observed, with no significant traumatic history. Complementary imaging studies were used and, after diagnosis, it was decided to adopt a conservative surgical approach with surgical hip dislocation, preserving the anatomy and avoiding the need for a prosthesis to extend the useful life of the joint before considering a joint replacement. Conclusions: after the intervention with controlled surgical hip dislocation, the patient had no recurrence of synovial chondromatosis, and presented pain reduction and an improvement in hip functional capacity and quality of life. | Abstract (Spanish): | Introducción: el dolor en la cadera es un síntoma común vinculado a traumatismos, desgaste articular o predisposición genética. Ante un dolor progresivo e incapacidad funcional sin las causas anteriores, es necesario explorar y descartar otras causas menos frecuentes de daño articular, como la condromatosis sinovial. Actualmente, la luxación quirúrgica de cadera representa una alternativa eficaz y segura para tratar esta afección. Caso clínico: paciente masculino con condromatosis sinovial en la cadera, caracterizada por la limitación funcional progresiva, sin antecedentes relevantes y con evolución de dolor crónico que limita las actividades básicas de la vida. Al ser una enfermedad rara de etiología desconocida, se hizo una revisión bibliográfica para buscar resultados funcionales y mejoras del dolor posterior al tratamiento quirúrgico. Resultados: se observó el avance gradual de la enfermedad, sin antecedentes traumáticos significativos. Se utilizaron estudios de imagen complementarios y, tras el diagnóstico, se decidió adoptar un enfoque quirúrgico conservador con luxación quirúrgica de cadera, preservando la anatomía y evitando la necesidad de una prótesis para extender la vida útil de la articulación antes de considerar un reemplazo articular. Conclusiones: tras la intervención con luxación quirúrgica de cadera controlada, el paciente no tuvo recurrencia de la condromatosis sinovial y presentó reducción del dolor y una mejora en la capacidad funcional de la cadera y calidad de vida.
