| Abstract (English): | Objective: To determine the relationship between self-care agency and health-related quality of life in hospitalized chronically ill persons. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study with non-probabilistic convenience sampling. A total of 150 people with a diagnosis of chronic disease participated, who signed informed consent. A structured questionnaire for sociodemographic and clinical data, the Self-Care Agency Assessment Scale (ASA), and the EQ-5D-3L instrument with the visual analog scale (VAS) to assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) were applied. The statistical analysis included exploratory factor analysis, internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha, descriptive statistics, and Spearman correlation (p < 0.05). Results: The ASA scale showed high reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87) and revealed a factor structure of six conceptually coherent dimensions that explain 66.8% of the total variance. Thirty-nine possible health states were identified from the five dimensions assessed in the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire. Quality of life was found to be most affected in the mobility dimension (60%). Also, significant correlations were observed between lower self-care agency and greater limitation in mobility (r = -0.180; p < 0.05). Conclusion: The findings support the importance of integrating self-care agency assessment into hospital discharge planning, contributing to more personalized and effective interventions in the context of care for people with chronic diseases.
