| Abstract (English): | The article focuses on the characterization of the virome of Spodoptera frugiperda (maize biotype) using RNA-seq, with the aim of identifying viruses that could be used in biocontrol. This pest, which affects crops such as maize and cotton, is showing increasing resistance to insecticides, highlighting the need for sustainable control strategies. Larvae were collected in Envigado, Colombia, and sequencing was performed to detect viral sequences from the families Phenuiviridae, Baculoviridae, and Belpaoviridae. The preliminary findings represent a step forward in the understanding of the virome of this pest in Colombia and suggest new opportunities for the development of biocontrol methods.
