| Abstract (English): | Introduction: Sleep deprivation interferes with physical and mental well-being. Case Reports: To observe the presence of sleep disturbances in visually impaired patients at the Instituto de Cegos da Bahia, seven patients over 18 years old were interviewed about sleep in December 2024. The MSQBR questionnaire and a semi-structured questionnaire were used. There were three blind patients and four with low vision, two male and five female, with ages ranging from 20 to 63 years. Sleep difficulty ranged from mild to important in six cases with a positive score. Four patients reported difficulty initiating sleep, waking up tired, and sleeping during the day; five woke up in the middle of the night. Memory difficulty and concentration difficulty were found in 4 and 2 patients, respectively. None of the interviewees were using medication. Discussion: Cognitive impairment is the most important effect of sleep deprivation. In this study, the difficulty regarding memory was the most marked report, and concentration deficit was reported by the two most severe cases. Conclusion: The early identification of sleep disorders reduces harm and favors an effective therapeutic response to less aggressive and inclusive therapies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
