Abstract (English): The letter to the editor focuses on a methodological critique of the study on infections by Ehrlichia spp., Anaplasma spp., and Babesia spp. in humans in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. The authors point out that diagnosis based solely on microscopy of Giemsa-stained blood smears has low sensitivity and specificity, which could lead to false positives and overestimate the prevalence of these infections, especially in asymptomatic individuals. Furthermore, they highlight the absence in Venezuela of recognized vectors for these pathogens and the need for molecular methods and multivariate statistical analyses to validate the results. Finally, they recommend that future research use confirmatory techniques and more robust designs to obtain reliable epidemiological data that can guide public health policies.
