| Abstract (English): | OBJECTIVE: To evaluate anxiety and depression levels in burn patients treated at a hospital in Colombia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive, longitudinal, and prospective study was conducted between January 2019 and December 2021. All patients diagnosed with burns who met the inclusion criteria were included. Beck's scales were used to assess anxiety and depression. RESULTS: There were included 214 patients, of which 70.1% were male. The highest mortality occurred in the 30-39 year-old group. The main causes of burns were direct fire and boiling liquids. Most injuries were AB dermal burns affecting less than 20% of body surface. A high prevalence of anxiety (59.3%) and depression (64%) was found, especially in patients with suicide attempts, critical conditions, and prolonged hospitalizations. Psychiatric history was strongly associated with these emotional disturbances. CONCLUSIONS: Burns cause significant psychological consequences, such as anxiety and depression, affecting quality of life. Factors such as injury severity, clinical condition, age, gender, and psychiatric history are key predictors. Individualized psychological assessments and early comprehensive interventions are recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |

MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Estudio descriptivo, longitudinal y prospectivo, efectuado entre enero de 2019 y diciembre de 2021. Se incluyeron todos los pacientes con diagnóstico de quemaduras que cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. Se usaron las escalas de Beck para evaluar ansiedad y depresión. RESULTADOS: Se incluyeron 214 pacientes, de los que el 70.1% eran hombres. Hubo mayor mortalidad en el grupo de 30 a 39 años. Las principales causas de quemaduras fueron el fuego directo y los líquidos hirvientes. Predominaron las lesiones dérmicas AB que afectaban menos del 20% del cuerpo. Se encontró alta prevalencia de ansiedad (59.3%) y depresión (64%), especialmente en pacientes con intentos de suicidio, estados clínicos críticos y hospitalizaciones prolongadas. Los antecedentes psiquiátricos se asociaron significativamente con estas alteraciones emocionales. CONCLUSIONES: Las quemaduras producen consecuencias psicológicas relevantes, como ansiedad y depresión, que afectan la calidad de vida. Algunos factores, como la gravedad de la lesión, el estado clínico, la edad, el sexo y los antecedentes psiquiátricos, son predictores decisivos.
