Abstract (English): The article focuses on the representation of insomnia and sleep disorders in art and medicine, taking as a reference the “plague of insomnia” described in Gabriel García Márquez’s novel *One Hundred Years of Solitude*. It is proposed that, although in fiction insomnia causes immediate harm, in reality its impact is progressive and is related to cognitive decline and memory loss—problems that have become socially normalized. Furthermore, it is suggested that insomnia could be considered a disease with epidemic characteristics, influenced by social and technological factors, and that addressing it requires a collective will to improve sleep health throughout life. The text emphasizes the importance of recognizing sleep as a central element for public health. [Extracted from the article]
[Extracted from the article]
