| Abstract (English): | The article focuses on a clinical case of bacteremia secondary to pancolitis caused by Campylobacter jejuni in a young immunocompetent patient, a rare situation since this invasive infection usually affects mainly immunocompromised individuals or those with comorbidities. The favorable clinical course of the patient is described following initial empirical antibiotic treatment, despite the microorganism showing resistance to ciprofloxacin, and the subsequent administration of azithromycin. The literature review indicates that, in young patients without underlying diseases, bacteremia caused by C. jejuni can be transient and resolve spontaneously, possibly due to an effective immune response, whereas in immunocompromised patients it can be severe. Additionally, the microbiological characteristics of the pathogen and current recommendations on antimicrobial management based on the microorganism’s susceptibility are discussed.
