Abstract (English): BACKGROUND: Red flags are an indicator of neurodevelopment in early childhood; their interpretation is adjusted to the frequency with which they are observed in the presence or absence of perinatal risk and damage. OBJECTIVE: To identify differences in the presentation of neurological red flags for neurodevelopmental disorders in children aged 0 to 3 years with high (HR) and low (LR) perinatal risk. METHOD: A cross-sectional, prospective, comparative study was conducted with 186 children at high risk and 380 at low risk. Frequencies of red flags and the significance of differences between groups and by age range were analyzed. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Signs related to sensorimotor and psychomotor development, elementary movements, developmental reactions, and active tone showed the greatest differences. In the LR group, the percentage of mild red flags was 6.93 %, and severe red flags accounted for 3.97 %. Passive tone and movement presented higher percentages. In the HR group, mild red flags were 10.35 % and severe ones 6.9 %. CONCLUSIONS: Children without perinatal risk factors also present neurological red flags, although mostly mild. An increase in perinatal risk factors is associated with a greater presence and severity of these signs, reflecting a higher risk of neurodevelopmental disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Abstract (Spanish): ANTECEDENTES: Los signos de alarma son un indicador del neurodesarrollo en la primera infancia; su interpretación se ajusta a la frecuencia en que se observan en presencia o ausencia de riesgo y daño perinatal. OBJETIVO: Identificar las diferencias en la presentación de signos de alarma neurológicos en niños de 0 a 3 años con alto (AR) y bajo riesgo (BR) perinatal para alteraciones del neurodesarrollo. MÉTODO: Estudio transversal, prospectivo y comparativo entre 186 niños de AR y 380 de BR. Se analizaron las frecuencias de signos de alarma y la significancia de las diferencias entre muestras y por rango de edad. RESULTADOS Y DISCUSIÓN: Los signos relacionados con el desarrollo sensoriomotriz y psicomotor, movimientos elementales, reacciones del desarrollo y tono activo mostraron mayores diferencias. En el grupo BR, el porcentaje de signos leves fue de 6.93 % y el de signos severos, del 3.97 %. El tono pasivo y el movimiento presentaron porcentajes mayores. En el grupo AR, los signos leves fueron de 10.35 % y los severos de 6.9 %. CONCLUSIONES: Los niños sin factores de riesgo perinatal también presentan signos de alarma neurológicos, aunque en su mayoría leves. El incremento de factores de riesgo perinatal se asocia con mayor presencia y severidad de estos signos, reflejando un riesgo más alto de alteraciones en el neurodesarrollo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
