Abstract (English): The article focuses on health spending in Chile, highlighting that the budget for the year is approximately 17 trillion pesos, with a 3% cut that will mainly affect hospital expenditures. It points out that this reduction will impact the capacity to perform surgeries, maintain mental health centers (COSAM), renew ambulances, and meet the demand in primary care (APS), as well as complicate the response to the Oncological Health Emergency. Although Chile has health spending below the OECD average and good coverage (97% of the population), it faces challenges in efficiency, with high rates of avoidable deaths and high out-of-pocket expenses. The text concludes that, alongside defending the need to maintain or increase the budget, it is essential to improve efficiency and leverage successful models in public health to address current demands.
