| Abstract (English): | Introduction. Periodontitis is known as a chronic inflammatory condition, of multifactorial origin, characterized by the destruction of the support apparatus of periodontal tissues. It is currently documented mentions that an access flap is more effective tan subgingival debridement in reducing probing depths in pockets greater tan or equal to 6 mm. Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of access flap surgery in a patient with localized stage III grade C periodontitis who did not respond favorably to conventional non surgical treatment. Case report. A 40-year-old female patient with stage III grade C periodontitis, who presented with probing depths of 7 mm on re-evaluation after debridement, underwent a surgical access flap. The patient evolved favorably, decreasing the depths to 4 mm. Conclusions. The surgical access flap is an effective option in the surgical treatment of stage III periodontitis when the periodontal pockets do not respond to conventional non-surgical treatment. This procedure allows better visibility and Access to the root surfaces, facilitating cleaning and eliminating residual inflammatory tissue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Introducción. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
