| Abstract (English): | Objectives: Describe the cohort of patients who underwent colonoscopy between 2022 and 2024 at Hospital Regional de Copiapó, with an emphasis on Colorectal Cancer. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with information obtained from the database of the Statistics Department and the Pathological Anatomy Department of the Hospital Regional de Copiapó (HRC). Results: Between 2022 and 2024, 1136 long colonoscopies were scheduled; 1114 were completed, 18 were suspended, and 4 were left incomplete, with a sustained annual increase in the total number of colonoscopies. The main cause of suspension was patient non-attendance. Women and beneficiaries of the National Health Fund (acronym in Spanish FONASA) predominated; the most frequent age groups were 60-69 and 70-79 years. Most of the indications came from the Diagnostic and Treatment Center (acronym in Spanish CDT) and the Gastroenterology specialty. A total of 644 biopsies were obtained, a number that also showed a progressive increase. Histological findings were distributed mainly between adenomas and colitis, which together accounted for ≥60% of the annual results, while cancer remained at ≤10%, decreasing from 9.9% in 2022 to 5.4% in 2024. Conclusions: The study showed a sustained increase in colonoscopies performed at Copiapó Regional Hospital between 2022 and 2024. The most frequent diagnoses were adenomas and colitis, with a progressive rise in adenoma cases, suggesting improved early detection of precancerous lesions. | Abstract (Spanish): | Objetivos: Describir la cohorte de pacientes sometidos a colonoscopías realizadas entre los años 2022 y 2024 en el Hospital Regional de Copiapó, con énfasis en cáncer colorrectal. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, transversal y descriptivo con información obtenida de la base de datos del Departamento de Estadística y del Departamento de Anatomía Patológica del Hospital Regional de Copiapó (HRC). Resultados: Entre 2022 y 2024 se programaron 1136 colonoscopías largas; 1114 se completaron, 18 se suspendieron y 4 quedaron incompletas, con un incremento anual sostenido en el total de colonoscopías realizadas. La principal causa de suspensión fue la inasistencia del paciente. Predominaron las mujeres y los beneficiarios del Fondo Nacional de Salud (FONASA); los grupos etarios más frecuentes fueron 60-69 y 70-79 años. La mayoría de las indicaciones procedieron del Centro de Diagnóstico y Tratamiento (CDT) y de la especialidad de gastroenterología. Se obtuvieron 644 biopsias, número que también mostró un aumento progresivo. Los hallazgos histológicos se distribuyeron principalmente entre adenomas y colitis, que en conjunto representaron ≥60% de los resultados anuales, mientras que el cáncer se mantuvo ≤10%, descendiendo de 9,9% en 2022 a 5,4% en 2024. Conclusiones: El estudio mostró un aumento sostenido en las colonoscopías y biopsias realizadas en el Hospital de Copiapó entre 2022 y 2024. Los diagnósticos más frecuentes fueron adenomas y colitis, con un aumento progresivo de adenomas, lo que sugiere una mejora en la detección precoz.
