Abstract (English): The article focuses on the regulation of biological activities by circadian rhythms, primarily controlled by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus, which synchronizes functions such as sleep, hormone release, and metabolism. It highlights the influence of these biological clocks on athletic performance, immune response, and the effectiveness of vaccines and medications, as well as on chrononutrition, which studies the importance of the timing of food intake for metabolic health. Additionally, it points out that the desynchronization of these rhythms is associated with disorders such as obesity, and that maintaining regular schedules for eating and physical activity can help regulate these internal clocks. Abstract (Spanish): El artículo se centra en la regulación de las actividades biológicas por los ritmos circadianos, controlados principalmente por el núcleo supraquiasmático (SCN) del hipotálamo, que sincroniza funciones como el sueño, la liberación hormonal y el metabolismo. Se destaca la influencia de estos relojes biológicos en el rendimiento deportivo, la respuesta inmune y la efectividad de vacunas y medicamentos, así como en la crononutrición, que estudia la importancia del momento de la ingesta alimentaria para la salud metabólica. Además, se señala que la desincronización de estos ritmos está relacionada con trastornos como la obesidad y que mantener horarios regulares de alimentación y actividad física puede ayudar a regular estos relojes internos.
