Abstract (English): Background: Little is known about sexual function in patients with a previous breast cancer diagnosis. Treatments for breast cancer can cause structural and functional damage at different levels, affecting quality of life and emotional well-being of patients. This can produce pain, inhibition of sexual desire and difficulties in intimacy as a result of mastectomy, tumoral resection, radiation, chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. Objective: To evaluate sexual function in females with breast cancer remission. Material and methods: An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted in patients with breast cancer remission, attending consultation in the Oncology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation departments during the period from August to October 2024, who underwent the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire. Results: 129 patients were included. A high rate of sexual dysfunction was found 104 (80.6%) despite having a stable partner or being married. An adequate level of sexual function was observed in 14 (18.6%) of patients treated with radical mastectomy without reconstruction, while the highest scores were found in patients who underwent mastectomy and reconstruction. Conclusions: Most patients treated with mastectomy without reconstruction presented with sexual dysfunction. Patients treated with mastectomy and reconstruction exhibited adequate sexual function. Abstract (Spanish): Introducción: se sabe muy poco sobre la función sexual femenina en pacientes con antecedente de diagnóstico de cáncer de mama. Los tratamientos para el cáncer de mama pueden ocasionar daños estructurales y funcionales en diferentes niveles, afectando negativamente la calidad de vida y el bienestar emocional de las pacientes. Estas secuelas pueden manifestarse como dolor, disminución del deseo sexual y dificultades en la intimidad, asociadas a procedimientos como la mastectomía, lumpectomía, radioterapia, quimioterapia y terapia hormonal. Objetivo: evaluar la función sexual femenina en pacientes en remisión de cáncer de mama Material y métodos: estudio observacional y transversal realizado en pacientes con remisión de cáncer de mama que acuden a consulta al servicio de Medicina Física y Rehabilitación, durante el periodo de agosto a octubre 2024 a quienes se les realizó el cuestionario Índice de Función Sexual Femenina. Resultados: se incluyeron 129 pacientes. Se encontró un alto índice de disfunción sexual en 104 casos (80.6%), a pesar de tener parejas estables y/o estar casadas. Entre las pacientes sometidas a mastectomía radical sin reconstrucción, solo 14 (18.6%) presentaron una función sexual adecuada. En contraste, las pacientes que fueron sometidas a mastectomía con reconstrucción obtuvieron las puntuaciones más altas en el Índice de Función Sexual Femenina. Conclusiones: la mayoría de las pacientes sometidas a mastectomía sin reconstrucción presentaron disfunción sexual. En cambio, aquellas que recibieron reconstrucción posterior a la mastectomía radical mostraron, en su totalidad, una función sexual adecuada. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
