Abstract (English): BACKGROUND: Noise-induced hearing loss typically develops over time due to repeated noise exposure at levels above 85 dB. Conversely, single, brief exposures to much higher noise levels can cause permanent hearing loss; this is known as acoustic trauma. Noise exposure is a major public health problem that negatively affects the healthcare system and causes hearing deficits and non-hearing consequences. CLINICAL CASES: Five male patients aged 26-44 years with acute acoustic trauma secondary to high-intensity impulsive noise and immediate management. Three patients received treatment with combined steroids (oral and intratympanic) and two received oral treatment alone. Except for one case, all patients recovered their hearing. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment is most effective when initiated as soon as possible after the injury caused by acute acoustic trauma, to achieve greater hearing recovery. Treatment is based on steroids and there are different routes of administration (oral and intratympanic). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
