Abstract (English): This essay reflects on the meaning of the Eduardo Liceaga Medal in light of Mexico’s hygienist and public health tradi- tion. Using Liceaga’s figure as a point of departure, it explores historical parallels in institution building, training of human resources, and the defense of evidence-based policies against classical and emerging health risks, such as air pollution and lead exposure. The text highlights the collective dimension of public health, grounded in the vocation of teachers, colleagues, civil servants, and new generations. Finally, it proposes equity and hope as key axes to confront insufficient investment in prevention and today’s institutional turbulence, while uphold- ing "the ascending spirit of public health" as an ethical and professional horizon.
