| Abstract (English): | Andes Pediatrica/Revista Chilena de Pediatría (AP/RCHP) is undergoing a continuous process of professionalization of its editorial team. Objective: To determine the motivation and training needs of AP/RCHP editors. Methodology: Exploratory qualitative study. A semi-structured guideline was applied to a focus group of AP/RCHP editors. Content analysis was based on pre-established categories: motivation, barriers and facilitators for editor performance, training needs, and proposals for improvement. Results: Six editors participated, with a median age of 57.5 years (interquartile range [IQR] 48.3-62.0), five of whom were female and five were pediatricians. Median time as an editor was 4.5 years (IQR 1.8-5.8) with an average dedication of 2 hours per week (IQR 1.3-2.0). Extrinsic and intrinsic motivations were identified. Continuous learning stood out as the main motivator. Among the obstacles to performance as an editor, limited time, workload, and difficulty in finding reviewers were mentioned. The increase in the flow of manuscripts and their complexity was seen as a challenge. There was agreement on the importance of training reviewers to optimize the quality of the editorial process, and the support of more experienced editors was valued. For a training plan, research methodology, the use of artificial intelligence-based editorial tools, academic writing, ethical issues and creation of graphs and figures were prioritized. Conclusions: AP/RCHP editors reported high motivation for their work. Barriers and facilitators to working as an editor were recognized. | Abstract (Spanish): | Andes Pediatrica/Revista Chilena de Pediatría (AP/RCHP) se encuentra en un permanente proceso de profesionalización del equipo editorial. Objetivo: Determinar la motivación y las necesidades de capacitación de editores de AP/RCHP. Metodología: Estudio cualitativo exploratorio. Se realizó un grupo focal con editores de AP/RCHP, usando un guion semiestructurado y análisis de contenido en base a categorías preestablecidas: motivación, barreras y facilitadores para el desempeño de editor, necesidades de capacitación y propuestas de mejora. Resultados: Participaron 6 editores, mediana edad 57,5 años, (rango intercuartil [RIC] 48,3-62,0), 5 de género femenino, 5 pediatras. Mediana de tiempo como editor 4,5 años (RIC 1,8- 5,8) con dedicación promedio de 2 horas semanales (RIC 1,3- 2,0). Se identificaron motivaciones extrínsecas e intrínsecas. Destacó el aprendizaje continuo como motivador principal. Entre los obstáculos en el desempeño como editor, se mencionó el tiempo limitado, la carga laboral y la dificultad de conseguir revisores. Se vislumbró como desafío el aumento de flujo de manuscritos y la complejidad de estos. Hubo acuerdo en la importancia de capacitar revisores para optimizar la calidad del proceso editorial y se valoró el acompañamiento por editores con más experiencia. Para un plan de formación, se priorizó metodología de la investigación, uso de herramientas editoriales basadas en inteligencia artificial, escritura académica, aspectos éticos y elaboración de gráficos y figuras. Conclusiones: Los editores de AP/RCHP reportaron una alta motivación por su labor. Se reconocieron barreras y facilitadores del trabajo como editor.
