| Abstract (English): | The article focuses on the importance of the physical examination and medical history in medical practice, especially in pediatrics, and reflects on their apparent decline in the face of increased use of diagnostic technologies. It highlights that the physical examination, together with the clinical history, allows for the diagnosis of approximately 60% of diseases without the need for additional tests, and that its omission can increase clinical errors. Furthermore, it emphasizes the therapeutic and relational value of the physical examination in the doctor-patient interaction, as well as the need to promote its teaching and practice, even in the context of new technologies such as pediatric point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Finally, it points out that despite its limitations, the physical examination continues to be valued by patients and is fundamental for comprehensive and humanized medical care. | Abstract (Spanish): | El artículo se centra en la importancia del examen físico y la anamnesis en la práctica médica, especialmente en pediatría, y reflexiona sobre su aparente declive frente al aumento del uso de tecnologías diagnósticas. Se destaca que el examen físico, junto con la historia clínica, permite diagnosticar aproximadamente el 60% de las enfermedades sin necesidad de pruebas complementarias, y que su omisión puede aumentar los errores clínicos. Además, se subraya el valor terapéutico y relacional del examen físico en la interacción médico-paciente, así como la necesidad de fomentar su enseñanza y práctica, incluso en el contexto de nuevas tecnologías como la ecografía crítica pediátrica (Point-of-Care Ultrasound, POCUS). Finalmente, se señala que, a pesar de sus limitaciones, el examen físico sigue siendo valorado por los pacientes y es fundamental para una atención médica integral y humanizada.
