| Abstract (English): | This updated guide contains levels of evidence and recommendations developed through structured questions (PICO, PECO, PIO, PEO) and a systematic search of international guidelines (ILAE, AAN, SAdE) and indexed articles, with the purpose of providing physicians in the Emergency Department with a clear diagnostic approach when treating patients of any age presenting with epileptic seizures (ES) and/or epilepsy. The objective is to unify criteria that ensure comprehensive care based on appropriate decision-making, thereby benefiting the patient through individualized analysis using proper anamnesis, physical examination, and precise laboratory and imaging studies. This will allow the indication of pertinent clinical and pharmacological measures for timely intervention, thus preventing complications and, whenever possible, recurrence of ES. | Abstract (Spanish): | Esta guía actualizada contiene niveles de evidencia y recomendaciones elaboradas mediante preguntas estructuradas (PICO, PECO, PIO, PEO) y búsqueda sistemática de guías internacionales (ILAE, AAN, SAdE) y artículos indexados con la finalidad de proporcionar al médico en el servicio de urgencias un claro abordaje diagnóstico en el actuar frente al paciente de cualquier edad, que acuda con crisis epilépticas (CE) y/o epilepsia. El objetivo es unificar criterios que garanticen la atención integral basada en la adecuada toma de decisiones, beneficiando así al paciente al llevar a cabo un análisis individualizado mediante la correcta anamnesis, exploración física y los estudios precisos de laboratorio e imagen, lo que permitirá indicar las medidas clínicas y farmacológicas pertinentes para la intervención oportuna, evitando así las complicaciones y en lo posible, la recurrencia de las CE.
