| Abstract (English): | Antiseizure medications (ASM) remain the cornerstone of epilepsy treatment. Selection should be individualized based on seizure type, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, dose, comorbidities, and availability in Mexico. Monotherapy achieves seizure control in 50 to 70% of cases; in the remaining cases, a second ASM or additional strategies are required. This guideline updates recommendations for focal and generalized seizures in adults, based on evidence from 2022 through 2025. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Los medicamentos anticrisis (MAC) son el pilar del tratamiento de la epilepsia. La elección debe individualizarse considerando tipo de crisis epilépticas, mecanismo de acción, farmacocinética, dosis, comorbilidades y disponibilidad en México. La monoterapia logra control de crisis en el 50 a 70% de los casos; el resto requerirá un segundo MAC o estrategias adicionales en situaciones especiales.
