| Abstract (English): | Intestinal obstruction is a frequent cause of acute abdomen and represents a significant challenge in emergency surgical practice. This study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics, etiologies, and outcomes of patients undergoing surgical treatment for intestinal obstruction in a referral center. This retrospective study included patients who underwent treated between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2023 at Hospital Estadual Alberto Torres. Data were obtained from electronic medical records, including age, sex, comorbidities, clinical presentation, complementary examinations, surgical treatment, postoperative outcomes, and mortality. A total of 210 patients were included. Malignant neoplasms were the leading cause of intestinal obstruction (33.3%), followed by abdominal wall hernias and adhesions. Abdominal computed tomography demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy (88.1%). Postoperative mortality was 23.8% and was associated with advanced age, underlying etiology, type of surgical procedure, and the occurrence of infectious complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
A tomografia computadorizada demonstrou elevada acurácia diagnóstica (88,1%).
