Abstract (English): Prevalence of Burnout Syndrome was evaluated in 193 physicians, 35 executive personel and 150 labourers; distributed according to sex, age and socioeconomical condition; in order to estimate emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment according to the Maslach and Jackson tests, and its relationship with sex, age and socioeconomic condition. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The Maslach and Jackson test were used for data collection and the Graffar-Mendez Castellano test to establish socioeconomic stratification of included subjects. Burnout Syndrome was present in 33.7%, 14.3% and 18% (p< 0.01) of physicians, executive personel and labourers respectively. Males younger than 32 years old were the most affected. Differences between groups from different socioeconomical conditions were not statistically significant (p >0.05). It is concluded that Burnout Syndrome affects physicians more frequently than persons with some other occupations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
