| Abstract (English): |
In Mexico, accidents are the fourth cause of death, and are currently considered a public health issue. Out of the total deaths in 2005, 7.2% were due to accidents, and they affected more significantly the male population. Motor vehicle accidents were the most commonly reported type. As a result, Mexican authorities implemented a series of programs to promote a national culture for accident prevention. Nevertheless, accidents continue to cause multiple injuries to various organs and systems in those involved. Consequently, it has been suggested that polytrauma patients make up a special group with specific characteristics, requiring specialized management on admission to the emergency department. For that reason, it is important to develop practice guidelines that the general practitioner may follow for an optimal approach to patient management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): |
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
