| Abstract (English): | This paper proposes a reflection on the conceptual approach of old age from the biological and culture aging. Thus, categories about the explanation of the aging process related to the age distinction in society, theories of aging, aging subjectivity, knowledge and practices of the transition rite of passage from adult to elder are proposed. This article suggests the importance of interpreting the aging in a particular way based on the social context of development, defined in the conditions of existence of the elder population in everyday life without ignoring the biological and demographical issues. | Abstract (Spanish): | El presente ensayo propone una reflexión en torno al abordaje conceptual de la vejez a partir del envejecimiento biológico y cultural. De ese modo, se proponen categorías sobre las explicaciones del proceso de envejecer, relacionadas con la distinción de la edad en la sociedad, las teorías del envejecimiento, la subjetividad en la vejez, los conocimientos y prácticas de las transiciones vitales del rito de paso de adulto a anciano. El artículo sugiere la importancia de interpretar la vejez de manera particular en el marco social de su desarrollo, definido en las condiciones de existencia de los ancianos en la vida cotidiana sin desconocer los aspectos biológicos, psicológicos y demográficos. | Abstract (Portuguese): | Este artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre a abordagem conceitual da velhice, com base naidade biológica e cultural. Assim, são propostas as categorias para explicar o processode envelhecimento relacionado com a distinção de idade na sociedade, as teorias do envelhecimento, envelhecimento conhecimento, subjetividade e práticas das transições devida de rito de passagem para a vida adulta os idosos. O artigo sugere a importância deinterpretar a velhice, em particular no contexto social do desenvolvimento, definido nascondições de existência dos idosos na vida cotidiana sem ignorar os fatores biológicos, psicológicos e demográficos.
