Abstract: The article focuses on the declining number of young people in the Tanka community in Datang, China who are interested in fishing as of January 24, 2017. Most young people reportedly prefer to leave the community and work in the city, which threaten the survival of their culture. However, older people do not regret not preserving their culture as their fishing life is only a means of survival. Also discussed are the challenges that the community is facing including water pollution.
