Abstract: To hear one of the nation's most eminent scientists rage about the injustice of the Nobel Prize is to suspect a case of sour grapes. But when astrophysicist and Astronomer Royal Martin Rees cries foul he is not thinking of himself. Lord Rees, OM, 80, has in any case been amply honoured. And despite a career spent investigating the shape of the universe, the birth of stars, the formation of galaxies and the power of black holes, he considers that he hasn't made "any really major and lasting individual scientific contributions".
