| Abstract: | Even before he won the top job, Barry O'Farrell liked to boast that he was down with the kids and knew as much about social media as the next teen. A devotee of Twitter, the Premier likes to kick off his day with a few tweets (on his iPad, of course) before breakfast. His tweets are his own work and not of his media minders, he is always quick to stress. It was not surprising, then, that O'Farrell was quick to respond yesterday to some light-hearted jibes in a Sunday newspaper column that teased him for flirting with prolific tweeters rather than fixing the state. "Leave the twittering to your kids," the column urged. "It's just not cool Barry." The Premier begged to differ. "Old media again expressing concern about my tweeting," he tweeted, and linked to an opinion piece about Twitter changing the world of journalism. Perhaps O'Farrell has completely emerged himself in the twitterverse, or maybe he has a touch of teen insecurity. |
