Title: First Course in Linear Algebra
Description: The book is intended to provide a basic course in Linear Algebra for Honours and MA Students of Mathematics. It is written in a lucid and rigorous style, and does not pre-suppose a previous knowledge of abstract algebra on the part of the reader. A preliminary chapter explains the elementary algebraic concepts and results needed for the subsequent chapters. Starting with matrices and determinants, the book develops the theory of vector spaces and goes on to canonical forms of a matrix, Euclidean spaces and multilinear algebra. The last chapter gives a brief introduction to generalised inverses of a matrix and their application to best approximate solutions of a non-consistent system of linear equations.
