The scientific name for the Chinese and Japanese mystery snails, Cipangopaludina, may have its origin in the poem, “Les Conquérants”, by De Heredia, who incorporated the name Cipango in his story of the search for gold on a mysterious island, Zipangu (Japan). The book will appeal to anyone interested in invasive molluscs.
